I see myself teaching treaties similar to our guest speaker on Tuesday. However, throughout my high school experience I did not learn anything about native studies or treaties. University was one of the only reasons why I know and understand the treaties. I think as a aspiring teacher it is important to incorporate information about native studies into the outcomes just she did. The more teachers there are that are incorporating this knowledge and continuing to inform students about this topic , the more of a norm it will become. Soon enough, perhaps the curriculum could adapt and make native studies a mandatory study. I think it is important as a Canadian to understand about treaty rights.
